The C Word!

"Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will."

- Zig Ziglar

change can be seen as exit from one phase and entry into another

If only this was as easy to follow :) Life is full of uncertainties and chances, and yet, we try and cling to the certain and assured things. When change beckons, logic and planning go out of the window. Any change which upsets the flow of things, any change which creates any ripples is looked at with such fear. Any reasoning and composure we may have built in any given situation, is replaced with anxiety and panic. But in hindsight, most of the changes are more than necessary, mostly what we fear is not the change itself, but the lack of confidence in ourselves to make the best of whatever the change will bring. Despite all the stagger of confidence that we build around ourselves and in-spite of all the beliefs and values we strive for, which have led us to where we are, why do we still get afraid of the darkness that the future holds? Why do we still not trust the Hand that guides us and sees us through? Why do we prefer to accept everything with a pinch of salt, rather than with a positive note? Why do we choose to believe in the worst?

Who knows, for all of the stress we take, we could just sit back and laugh at our foolishness, 20 years hence.

Or there might not be anything left of "we" 20 years hence ...

But that's another story!

Introducing "H"

On being chided by me, for being obsessed about a CNBC report on the weakening rupee than about his wife –

He (taking me in his arms): Tu-chi migel Rupee ani tu-chi migel Dollar nhave !
(Roughly translated into You only are my Rupee and you are my Dollar, na!)

Me: !!!!!

And that I believe to be the “best” compliment to have been received from him. Not that he doesn’t say nice, romantic and sugary stuff, in fact sometimes more than necessary (but am not complaining), but for a person who has spent last 10 years mastering Risk Assessment in Foreign Exchange Markets, this line means a lot more than what I, a laywoman would understand.

Who is he, you ask? Oh, let me introduce you to my husband. Yes, i got married on November 14, 2011. In 2 days i celebrate my first month of marriage and the journey so far has been simply beautiful.

Without boring everyone on the details of who, what, when, why, where and how, I’ll simply state some random facts about H (yea, that’s what i call him) –
  • He is a complete sports freak, I have had no connection with sports in my last seven lives.

  • The most romantic thing he’s done for me would be scourging for a impossible to obtain copy of Hitchhikers Guide to Galaxy :)

  • He is a happy and sunshine-ish person (touchwood) with a serious face, whereas despite that entire Colgate smile plastered on me, i can get dark and twisted inside. He’s helped me brighten those gaps :)

  • He is not like any other person I have met till date – Calm, collected and Intelligent. I never knew that any person could be this calm and steady. Diametrically opposite to my wavering, moody and temperamental emotional nature. His steady nature, holds me together. :)

  • while he comes from a family of three boys, I come from a family, where the number of women outweigh the number of men, by a good measure. This reflects widely in the nature of our approach and conversations – while he is to-the-point, matter-of-fact sort of a person who’ll believe in being practical and working towards solutions, I am the sort who delves into emotions, tries to understand the cause and thinking behind events and people, rather than results. Our conversations end up being rather hilarious. :)

  • He is a people-oriented fun person who talks less, while I am more of an anti-social pretentious snob who talks a lot. Ironic? That’s how we are.
That's us! :D

As different as chalk and cheese, nay? Not really. What we really bonded on, were the things that actually matter and are unlikely to change in the future – things like our values, vision for the future, attitude towards life and people, love of philanthropy and travelling.  He is a wonderful husband and I can’t help but thank my stars for helping me make the correct decision of saying a yes to him. Should I have had to do it all over again, I would have still made the same decision.
(I can very well imagine H’s blushing face as he finishes reading this. FYI, H does not really like the topics I write, says it’s too dark and unhappy. Hope you’ll enjoy this one, dear!)

So, that’s what’s kept me out of action for the whole of last 6 odd months from the blogosphere (am not talking of the laziness and writer’s block here, am i?) and life’s pretty much changed to a large extent. The change has been a wonderful opportunity to let go of the old and welcome the new, but it’s a change nevertheless. Crossing my fingers to see how it goes.

My parting shot – marriage with the right person, is totally worth it! More on the entire experience, later!

I would like to end this post with the lines from Celine Dion’s song I’m Alive

That I'll be the one standing by
Through good and through trying times
And it's only begun
I can't wait for the rest of my life

In fact, go hear the entire song, it’s just beautiful and apt! :D

Oh, by the way, totally want to say, the inspiration for this post is from Tejaswini and Purnima’s recent posts, got me all mushy and happy to share. You Go Girls!!

Letter to my love

Dear,

We have had a long relationship. Longer than many others, I have ever had. You have always held a very special place in my heart. From the first time I ever set my eyes on you, till today, I have fallen in love with you again, and again and yet again!

My life would be very much incomplete without you. You have been with me, longer than any one else. Your smell, your appearance, the calmness that surrounds you, would make everyone around love you. Yet, you never ignored me, loving me equally. You would give into my every fantasy, my every whim and wish, making sure each of our meetings was a memory I couldn’t forget. You are the only one, for whom I have given up on food! Yes, I have given up on foodstuff to save and come meet you! This silly thing called love… doesn’t let me forget you!

You know, how everyone has been against this love. They say, you sweep me of my feet. They say, I forget the world, when I am with you. They are true, though! Spending time with you, I never remember anyone or anything. Conversations seem unimportant, the background music/ noise unobtrusive. The only thing that I see, feel and hear is what you give me! You have been more than perfect for me, in every way a girl like me, could ask for….

Yet today, I did, what I couldn’t have imagined doing even in my wildest dreams! I ignored you… I walked past you without giving you as much as a glance. So what, if I was with my colleagues and they would never accept it for what it is…They would never understand the desire of visiting you and holding a book could ever be so important to me! I am sorry, really sorry for having to do this to you, dear !

Yours truly addicted

Rachana

This letter is sent to the Landmark and Crossword of my life ! :D

I treasure

(This is my contribution to the Writer's Island Prompt on Treasure)

I treasure…

You singing me a song, I never wanted to hear,

I doing a little jig, you never wanted to see.

Walking through the hallway I, trying to act important

You giving me a push, and telling me, it didn’t matter.

Awaiting my chance to speak, talk and impress

You giving me a smile saying “you know you are the best!”

Waiting for that magic, the moment that wouldn’t pass

You knew what I felt, knew just where to start…

Sitting at your window, talking about stories of glory

Watching the world go by, over too many cups of tea

Life is nothing but collection of moments such as these
What would I do, if they hadn’t happened to me!

09 lessons of 2009

Warning: It's going to be a pretty long post, so fasten your belts !

Hello people, been a real long time since i had a chance to blog about something which i felt like writing about! There have been quite a lot of things happening of late, plentiful things which have had much of an impact, on me, but wasn't sure i would be comfortable writing about every small (relatively) thing happening in my life! (WTH, am just giving a reason for my procrastination :P ) And after spending a year, in which i turned 24, got a few more grey hair, re-discovered a couple of philosophies, became a Company Secretary, discovered what hostel life can be, made a few good new friends, lost touch with quite a few, saw most of my close ones getting married/ committed/ engaged, etc and had real trouble adjusting to the change in my position and expectations of people around me and myself, changed to the point i couldn't recognize my own self in the mirror, had a lowdown, and returned, celebrated my birthday for the first time in the last three years, and probably will 'not-be-studying' for the New Years, in an equally long gap, this year has taught me quite a lot! Not that i had an absolutely amazing time or anything, but i wouldn't substitute it for anything!

So, here is a list of NINE things i learnt in the year of 2009 (trust me, the list could have easily been longer):

09 - Change, before you HAVE to ! Sticking on to the past, refusing to change, is just going to make you end up in a real bad shape. So, accept CHANGE, make it your friend, for it makes for a very BAD Enemy!

08 - Never say NEVER. Each of us change, each of us gets on with life, seldom does anyone stay where we left them, and hence, neither do relations. They will always evolve! Your best friend, at some point of time, would not have a clue of what you are undergoing currently, or a one-time hated personality, could turn into one of the closest buddies, you could have asked for... the point here is: Judgment + Perception + Our Thoughts = Very bad basis for determining the people in our life.

07 - *ALL Quite a few young men think from their Pants. Period.

06 - Friendship is a completely relative term. And so are most other things in life. The point is, everything and everyone is Grey. Only old movies are Black and White. So, you can either sit on the fence, judge and criticize them and blabber all that you want, or you can jump in, have fun and enjoy the whole 'being human' experience, which it guarantees you!

05 - You will give in to peer and societal pressure at some point of time, in life. No matter, how head strong, how pragmatic and how focussed you are. You will give in! And when you do, especially, if you are used to being an independent and strong individual yourself, chances are you will be terrible depressed, frustrated and probably wont recognise your own face in the mirror! If that ever happens to you, turn around and reclaim your life right away... i know cases, where it has been way way too late!

04 - You are what you read ! And, business wisdom books, self help books, and philosophy books, actually make a very good read (not really the pop psycho ones, but the actual good ones). Ayn Rand, might be a feminist writer, but she is still one helluva female! Oh, and Book Shopping during weekends can be very addictive and harmful for your financial health!

03 - You can have amazing fun with people you hardly know! You just need to be open to the idea of sharing space, thoughts and your time and energy with strangers who could be really different from you, than be closed to everyone about you!

02 - Management: Its all about the people, really! All you need to do is shift the focus from ME and MINE to YOU and YOURS. Management is no freaking cake walk, and taking the crap from clients and superiors for the mistakes done by your sub-ordinates is no fun, in any way, but it does make you think, gets you curious to understand people and more importantly understand and realize things about you, which may have been glaringly obvious to others, but not so much to you (read: lack of patience, need to be nice to people, etc) In short, Management is taking all your people theories in one basket, adding huge responsibility and limited resources factor in it, and turning it completely upside down!

and

01 - Most people CAN'T THINK ! Never has it been so glaringly obvious to me, than in the recent past, that people never or seldom use their intrinsic logical and reasoning power in any matters of their lives. Blame it on the education system, on the way our society runs or any other factor... But THIS is a very very irritating factoid, i had to discover the hard way!

Phew.... and they said 2009 was a happy year... yea, if you say so :P

Dec 9, 2009

if you're happy and you know it

clap your hands... *clap clap clap*

well, i think i found the single most important key to happiness: Gratitude !

If you have something to be happy and thankful for... remember it! chances of you getting depressed, dejected et all would just fly away!

and if all else fails... remember to thank Him, for you're still breathing :) :)

so.... clap your hands people... you know there are people who would kill to be where you and i are !!

ohh.... by the way.... 99th Post :D

One upon a time...

I am terribly cranky and pissed today!.... Don't ask me why!

Anyways, while googling something, i came across this link.... and by the end of the post, i had a little tear threteaning to roll down my eye!

The post sounded like a diary of a little girl i knew (rather still do!), she thought and felt similarly too, at times.... but then, better sense and things prevailed! Better people, better situations and more positive incidents happened and confidence came her way. She survived! And no, she is neither abnormal, nor depressed and neither a social outcast in any which way!

But yeah, she still does get terribly cranky at times... especially when there is no one to hear her out or she's working late on a saturday eve! :)

P.S: Some of the comments on the post are really motivating and heartfelt!... Kudos to them! :) :)

P.P.S: It's a website for some depressing sort of people of all kinds!... Horrors of horror, i found myself there!!... NO AM NOT A MEMBER ! (though i like their motto - together we'll survive!)

Law's of relations...

“Every Action always has an equal and opposite reaction” – Isaac Newton

Relations are really like an outstretched rubber band! To snap it, or to use it, it has to be handled in the same manner at both the ends. If both sides are pulled, it snaps… if both sides keep it steady, it stays on…. And if one side keeps pulling, while the other side does nothing, it will still snap! But then, it’s not the other side breaking it, it’s the force of the snapping side itself acting against it, while all you are doing then is watching the band break itself…..

So, what do you do then?... Do you tell the other side, to stop pulling? Do you start pushing or pulling; depending on what you think is right then?? Or do you just watch it break?

Maybe, just maybe…. It’s better to let nature take it’s own course… don’t you think?

Shopper's STOP!!

This simply reminds me of that day when Nee and me just went crazy on the streets of Mumbai trying to find a pair of glares for me!

Well, honestly, that was never the intention, but it was just 'another thing we could be doing on our spree' that ended up being THE FOCUS of our travails!!

Shopping with my friends has surely been 'momentous' for me!

Earlier during college, i remember making DD and Son wade through numeroous shops searching for 'THE PERFECT PAIR OF SHOES' (trust the prince got cindrella's pair done in half the time!) The look on their faces and their screams when the shopkeeper threteaned to show more pairs of shoes, once we were done, was beyond explanation!!... am sure, he still has nightmares about these two ladies!!

And ask ANY of my friends, how much 'FUN' it is to shop for music and books with me - they could easily go stroll, eat, sleep, put in a day of work, and be back, and chances of me noticing their absence is well, NIL!

As for shopping for anything else.... heheheeh.... i simply hate shopping, so no chances of us doing something of that sort together anytime!!

Here is a heartfelt thanks to all of those who have had the patience to withstand my 'day at the mall' antics!... it must be tough being you then.... LOL

and just why did i post this.... read the first line, dumbos!! :P

Jun 14, 2009

hey, i watch chick-flicks too...

I have been having a huge writer’s block! No matter what I try to pen, it just doesn’t live up to what I want to communicate, and without giving it much thought, I simply deride my own attempt at putting up a decent blog post, and move on to doing something else (used to be FB Quizzes, before I decided to delete my account!)

But today, am going to write, something, anything, nothing!! Ofcourse, I am not making sense, but I am writing (I might need to see a doc after this).

Anyways, I watched a movie after a really long time today! Thanks to the strike and the absolutely pathetic movies releasing prior to the commencement of the strike, it had been quite a while since I set foot in a theatre! The last time I had entered a theatre, well, someone was still in India, someone was still alive, I hadn’t met a few people, and our house was nearing eight years of neglect and no-repair!

Anyways, the movie I saw was a sweet and a very typical ‘chick-flick’ called Bride Wars! Now, before you smirk and judge me, let me tell you, it’s the sort of movie I would secretly watch on Star Movies, and never admit it (heck, I just did!!), but I couldn’t have found a better movie to watch with my best friend! Also, it’s a very ‘in-the-right-frame-of-mind’ movie, if you are not feeling ‘girlie’ enough (don’t ask me what that’s to mean), this would be a bore, cardboard cut out of any other movie from the same genre!

Without giving away too much, let me tell you what the movie does have – two cute ‘best friends’, gorgeous almost-perfect boyfriends & secret lovers, and loads of emotional and funny moments* and thankfully, the movie DOESN’T HAVE is a vamp, a love triangle and unnecessary drama! A perfect watch for all you girls out there before you start your stressful and hectic week! And for heaven’s sake, leave the poor guys out of this one, because, they won’t have a clue what is so funny, when two friends meet to bitch about someone, or what is so touching when one of them decides to do something ‘awwwwww’ for another!

The movie has a simple message – some relations and friendships are forever, don’t let your ego get in the way, because you would be doing as much damage to yourself, as to the other person and the relation! Reminds my college professor’s words, which I cherish till date – is your friendship/ relation so frail and cheap that something so simple can break it? Alternatively, do think when you give something as much importance to let it affect your view and assumption on someone, if it’s all really worth it?... really, is it?

* applicable only for giggling girls...

oh, also, i know this post totally makes me sound like a dumb blonde, but let me tell you, the black's an original!

in constant pursuit

i watched THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS recently....

one comment.... Wish had seen it earlier !!.... BRILLIANT!

Sep 16, 2008

What was it again ?!!

There has been a lot of talk on this for too long now, and though most have had their say, I am still unconvinced with their versions on it! I have friends for whom it’s a living reality, so to speak… a few others, who rant a lot about it, especially on their blog and stuff… and going by the number of weddings I have been attending, I presume ‘Love’ is well, everywhere right now!

Yeah, I am writing about it… and before anyone with their over fertile imagination begins, let me say, this is not based on any personal experience or stuff, and neither am I in love or planning to get married or anywhere remotely close! So, disclaimers done, here are my views on this pretty vague topic!

I have always found talks on love rather bemusing! For I believe people most often do confuse ‘love’ as an emotion with ‘relations’ that it gets into existence! Yes, these are, according to me, two rather distinct and separate things. Love in itself, is an emotion, and a very positive one at that, that touches people at different times in their lives towards different people. It is not that complex, if you see it all by itself. Love is not about holding hands or spending time together. The funny part of emotions is that, inspite of being universal, it still is very individualistic for each person, in himself, and the same holds true for love. It leaves a mark on each of us, in its own distinct way. Its something that stays with you, even when the person may not be around. Its something, which once it touches you, changes you forever, in one way or another. Love just needs to be felt, and acknowledging its existence within you, is enough to make you feel good about yourself and things around you! It’s a bond between those involved that surpasses time and space. Love doesn’t fear saturation; it just evolves, in its own terms, in its own varied forms and shapes. It doesn’t demand anything anything, even love in return. Just as you wouldn’t expect jealousy from a person you are jealous of, love doesn’t expect love from its object of affection, which is why it’s the emotion of giving. Its about being aware of the fact that we are capable of giving and sharing so much of ourselves as individuals without expecting much in return. Its not about worrying, if this would last, but its about knowing, that this will!

Relations, on the other hand, are a different ball game altogether. It is very funny, if you notice, how God’s simple emotion can be turned into a complex structure by man’s creation of relations. I am not against relations, mind you, but its sure stupid, when people equate the nature of the relations with the proportion of love. Love doesn’t need a relation to sustain it. It stays with a person, till the person is capable of emoting, in a way or another. Relationships, on the other hand, require love at their core to keep them going. While love is an emotion by itself, relationship is a commitment, an intention between the parties involved, to shape the bond or love shared between them into something distinct and unique. Relations more often than not, are based on our ‘need’ to be loved, more than our love towards the other person. And it is precisely this need that raises expectations and complicates things between two people, who may actually and truly love each other. More often than not, we hurt people we love the most, because, we expect the most from them. This is not saying that the love ceases to exist, it is just when the normal and human instincts getting better of us, than the emotion. The love still stays, just in a rather dormant form within! Like I said, we humans just love complicating things, and most often than not, we do!

Figuring out if something is love or not, well is a different question all by itself, and although I cant say much on that, I can just ask you to NOT rely on movies or books for any direction in this regard. Life doesn’t give you background music, or stormy indications like lightening or flashes and stuff, but it does give you something, a movie might never…. A smile on your face and a song in your heart!

With all this crap, I end my lecture on the MOST over rated topic of the century!

Note: This author is partly delusional and would not always want to be associated with this post. So beware!

hmm...

the phone rings, listen to the ringtone run its course, i dont pick it up.
receive an e-mail, check the subject, i dont read ahead.
some sentimental offlines, i dont reply.
tell people to call me, and then realise got nothing to speak.
to avoid the confusion, get my ears glued to the music on my cell phone, 24*7.
haven't picked up my law books in weeks.
avoiding meeting people other than the core group.
disliking movies that are actually pretty ok, otherwise.
cribbing, and then realising the folly of it all.
getting irritated with people for no reason at all.
giving the reason of being "too busy" for almost everything.

.
aah... the existential angst of an eternal escapist!
(need to start making amends for it all!)

snob... me?!

The best part of the whole experience is that it happened right NOW!

Like every Saturday, I left my work place to visit my grandmother for lunch. As I left the office building, I saw a group of three extremely well dressed and stylish females walking a little ahead of me. As our group approached the main exit gate I noticed a Black Merc coming to a halt outside the gate. Assuming it to be there for the three ladies (Merc for me, yea rite!rolling eyes ) …. I quietly surpassed them, came out and got in to a stationary auto rickshaw.

The driver gave me a dazed look, turned back and started the vehicle, asking me for my destination. Then he quietly looked towards the entrance. I followed his gaze to see the three ladies pointing at me, and probably swearing me to death!!

devil devil … I had actually snubbed them without even realising it, by getting into a vehicle probably called by them!! Sheesh… it was like winning a lottery without even realising you had a ticket!... ok ok, may be I should stop being so mean and reading too much in to all this… but the whole theory of presumptions and assumptions based on appearance, in a reverse manner, actually had truly left me feeling funny!!

FYI: This is my 50th "published" post... so glee big grin big grin big grin cool
